TALLAHASSEE – Florida is now suing the owners of a Tallahassee office complex where inspectors recently discovered pounds of bat feces.
The main state agency located at the complex filed a lawsuit today that asks for damages from the owners. The lawsuit by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation accuses the owners of allowing mold and other unsanitary conditions to go unchecked.
The state’s lawsuit comes one day after Northwood Associates filed its own lawsuit to stop the state from moving its employees out of the former mall.
Last month, inspectors discovered pounds of bat feces in the area right above the ceiling of the office of the agency secretary.
State legislators this spring ordered a halt to lease payments to the complex owners. Workers are scheduled to move out over the next two months. The office owners contend the Legislature’s actions were unconstitutional.
