USF guarantees admission to HCC graduates
TAMPA - Getting to the University of South Florida became easier today for local community college students with the creation of a regional education consortium. It guarantees USF admission to students with associate's degrees from Hillsborough Community College, Pasco-Hernando Community College and St. Petersburg College. It also gives the college students preferential admission to selected USF programs and expands opportunities for financial aid. The goal of the agreement is to make the transition from one of the colleges to USF "smooth and easy," said HCC president Ken Atwater, one of the four college and university presidents who signed the agreement today at USF.Florida has long had an arrangement, called 2+2, that guarantees university admission to community and state college students with associate's degrees. For the first time, this guarantees admission to a specific university, USF. It also sets out a plan for the institutions to work more closely together in planning new programs. The college presidents all agreed they would not start any new four-year bachelor's programs unless it was needed in the community and USF declined to offer it.
