Nearly 50,000 students start semester at USF

University of South Florida campuses came alive Monday, the first day of the fall semester.

While firm numbers won’t be available until the deadline to drop or add classes on Friday, USF said 47,756 students were on campus, including 36,124 undergraduates. The total number is up a couple hundred from last year, and includes 4,717 students at USF St. Petersburg and 1,899 at USF Sarasota-Manatee, which welcomed its first freshman class.

In Tampa, the “Week of Welcome” continued, and students were greeted by USF System President Judy Genshaft, who toured the campus and introduced herself.
