NEW PORT RICHEY — It was one of those perfect days, when sunscreen and shade are in high demand, smiles are aplenty and the camaraderie on the field trumps the thrill of victory.
About 600 Special Olympians and unified athletes from west Pasco schools came out to compete in the Pasco County Special Olympic summer games held Feb. 22 at River Ridge Middle High School. Another 593 east and central Pasco athletes were slated to compete the following day at the Wesley Chapel High campus.
All are vying for the opportunity to move on to area games held in March and April. Then it’s off to the state Special Olympics held in May in Orlando.
The games could not go off without the volunteers. More are needed to help coach . If interested in volunteering, donating or becoming a part of Special Olympics Pasco County, contact Val Lundin at (727) 774-3062.
