TAMPA — Gov. Rick Scott will make an appearance at a Hillsborough County elementary school this afternoon to present nearly $8.5 million in school recognition funding to the school district.
Florida’s School Recognition Program awards money to schools where student achievement in reading, math, science and writing has improved. Eligible schools were given an “A” grade by the Florida Department of Education in 2013, improved at least one letter grade or sustained a grade one year after improving.
This year in Hillsborough, nearly 100 schools are receiving recognition funding.
Schools can use the money in a number of ways. Some put it toward bonuses for faculty and staff, and others use it to buy classroom materials.
