Armwood High School was on lockdown for several hours Wednesday after a ninth-grader was discovered carrying a knife and bullets.
The school was put under lockdown at about 10:30 a.m., Hillsborough County school district spokeswoman Tanya Arja said. The incident began when a student reported to the school’s resource officer that another student verbally threatened him. The officer tracked down the student and found a knife with a 10 1⁄2-inch blade and 31 rounds of 9 mm ammunition in his bookbag, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
The school district said an extensive search of the campus did not find a gun, and students were let out at the normal time. The student faces charges of possession of a weapon school grounds and felon in possession of ammunition, the sheriff’s office said.
