Deputies: Man used K-2, Spice before attack on mom
A 22-year-old Safety Harbor man and his mother were both injured after a fight Monday afternoon, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Robert Payne later told deputies that he had taken synthetic drugs - K-2 and Spice - earlier in the day. Deputies say a fight began after Payne approached his mother in her kitchen and began choking her. Virginia Payne, 65, responded by striking her son over the head with a plate, deputies said. Robert Payne took a piece of the broken plate and slashed his mother’s throat, leaving a superficial wound, deputies said. Both then ran outside and a roofer working nearby called for help. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The investigation continues and deputies say charges against Robert Payne are forthcoming.
