A Zephyrhills man previously arrested on three DUIs picked up his fourth early Tuesday morning when he was discovered passed out behind the wheel of his running car, according to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.
James David Bennett, 43, 3350 Drum Road, is charged with felony DUI and refusing to take a breath test.
About 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, deputies and members of the Pasco County Fire Rescue were called to the intersection of State Road 56 and Meadow Point Boulevard in Wesley Chapel about a “man down,” according to the arrest report.
Once on scene, Bennett was found sleeping in his car, which was still running and in drive, in a left-hand turn lane, the report said.
Bennett, whose breath smelled of alcohol, according to authorities, told deputies he fell asleep and he could not recall the previous hour of time. An open bottle of Smirnoff vodka was found in the car.
During a series of roadside sobriety tests, Bennett performed poorly and told the deputy it was likely because he was intoxicated and tired, the arrest report said.
Bennett was taken to the Land O’ Lakes Jail and released on $1,650 bail, according to jail records.
