Woman killed in St. Pete traffic crash

A 24-year-old woman died Thursday morning after her vehicle was struck by another vehicle, causing her car to rotate and flip, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

The woman, who is not being identified, was not wearing her seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle after the crash, She died at the scene of the crash at 38th Avenue North and 34th Street, police said.

The victim was driving a 2001 Ford Escape at around 9:45 a.m. heading westbound on 38th Avenue north, police said.

Tuong Nguyen, 63, of St. Petersburg, was driving east on 38th Avenue North in a 1998 Honda Civic when she went to make a left turn onto 34th Street and struck the left rear of the Ford Escape, police said.

The driver of the Ford Escape lost control of the vehicle, which rotated counter-clockwise and crossed the westbound lanes, the median and entered eastbound traffic on 38th Avenue North, police said.

The Ford Escape then flipped over on its passenger side and rolled onto a 2010 Ford F-150 that was eastbound on 38th Avenue North and about to make a right turn onto 34th Street, police said.

Nguyen suffered minor injuries and was treated on the scene. The driver of the F-150 suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The passenger in the F-150 wasn’t injured, police said.

Alcohol and drugs weren’t a factor in the crash, police said.
