Suspect arrested in St. Pete homicide

A man suspected in the slaying of a St. Petersburg man during a robbery was arrested Wednesday night.

About 7:15 p.m., St. Petersburg police arrested Shirune Dometrius Green, 19, who is suspected in the death of Floyd Lassiter, after they received a tip that he was hiding out at an apartment in the Pinellas Point Apartment Complex, 2125 62nd Place South, St. Petersburg.

The occupant of Apartment 19 allowed police to search inside, and a K-9 unit found Green hiding under a pile of dirty laundry inside a closet. He refused orders to surrender and was bitten on the right arm by the K-9 during efforts to arrest him, police said.

Green was taken to a local hospital for treatment of the dog bite, which was not serious. At the hospital, however, it was found Green had a gunshot wound to the upper body, which police said they think he received during the struggle that led to Lassiter’s death.

After Green is released from the hospital, he will be processed by detectives at police headquarters before being transported to the county jail, police said.

The occupant of the apartment where Green was found is being questioned by detectives. No charges have been filed.

Police say Green is one of two suspects who on Saturday was in the process of stealing Lassiter’s car, which was parked in his driveway at 1837 25th St. S.

When Lassiter attempted to intervene, he was shot multiple times and later died at the hospital.

The second suspect has not been identified and remains at large, police said.
