Vintage plane’s $30,000 scratch at Fly-In a mystery
Lakeland police are trying to find out who is responsible for putting an 18-inch-long deep scratch in a vintage plane during this month’s Sun N’ Fun Fly-In. The B-25 plane, named “Panchito,” was parked near the beer tent during the event, which was held April 9 to 14 at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport. The long scratch along the left side of the fuselage’s exterior was about 6 feet off the ground, police said in a news release. The damage occurred between 6 p.m. April 13 and 9 a.m. April 14.The cost to repair the damage is about $30,000, police said. Anyone with information, or a video or photograph, that might provide clues regarding how the damage occurred was asked to call police at (863) 834-6900.
