Townhome fire put out, pet turtle rescued

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a fire Thursday night at a Town ‘N Country townhome, where they put out the fire and saved the family’s pet turtle.

Firefighters received a report at about 6:45 p.m. of smoke and flames coming from the first floor of a townhome at 7611 Woodbridge Blvd. Firefighters kept the flames from spreading beyond the first-floor unit and extinguished the fire.

The residents of the home evacuated before firefighters arrived but had left behind their pet turtle of nine years. A firefighter, though, was able to rescue the turtle, the fire department said.

No one was injured in the fire. The cause remains under investigation.
