Toddlers found on S.R. 54; mom charged
Coral Pearl Peterson, 22, 4100 block of Highland Loop in New Port Richey, was arrested and charged with child neglect after her two children were found walking along State Road 54 unsupervised Wednesday morning, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. One of the children wandered into oncoming traffic on eastbound S.R. 54 near Grand Boulevard and was nearly struck by a passing car, deputies said. The toddlers, ages 2 and 3, walked out the back door of their home about 8:10 a.m., according to the sheriff's office. Peterson told deputies someone else was supposed to be watching her children while she did chores. That person denied being asked by Peterson to watch her children, the arrest report said. The children had been left alone for nearly 30 minutes, according to the sheriff's office.Workers at a nearby day care center, Storybook Schools House, took the children and brought them inside. Peterson remains in the Land O' Lakes Jail with bail set at $1,500.
