Tampa police: Man arrested after firing gun into air

A man was arrested Wednesday night after he pulled out a handgun and fired into the sky as he chased down a person he was fighting, the Tampa Police Department said.

Two police officers were in the West Tampa neighborhood when they got a police dispatch call of a nearby fight at 2114 Union St., Tampa police said.

The two police officers saw several onlookers and saw a man enter a Chrysler Sebring and take out a handgun. The man then chased another person and fired shots in the air, police said.

Police commanded the man to drop the weapon. He complied and the officers recovered a .380 caliber handgun, police said.

He was charged with aggravated assault. No one was shot, police said.

Police wouldn’t release the names of the people involved.
