Tampa man surrenders in fatal Brandon hit-and-run

A Tampa man involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Saturday night turned himself in to deputies at Orient Road Jail tonight, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Robert Allan Winsor, 24, struck Shelly Ann Grimes as she walked west across Providence Road in Brandon within the crosswalk at the intersection of Providence Ridge Boulevard just after 11 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff’s office said.

Winsor was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with death and tampering with evidence, the sheriff’s office said.

Grimes was 59 and lived in Brandon.

Winsor, who was driving a 2013 black Chrysler 300, did not stop after the crash, the sheriff’s office said.

During the investigation, a caller learned about the case through news stories and contacted detectives to let them know the vehicle was at the Plantation Oaks Apartment in Tampa, where Winsor lived.

Detectives saw the Chrysler 300 had damage consistent with Saturday night’s hit-and-run crash. Investigators had the Chrysler 300 impounded.

A warrant was issued today for Winsor once investigators had developed more information on the case, the sheriff’s office said.
