Suspect caught at mall after bank robbery, Tampa police say
TAMPA After he robbed the bank, Thomas "Tommy" Cunneen went to the mall, police said. That might have been his mistake. A bank employee at Bank of America at West Shore and Kennedy boulevards saw Cunneen enter WestShore Plaza after he robbed the bank Friday afternoon, the Tampa Police Department said. Tampa police officers established a perimeter around the mall and bank as they searched for the suspect. Officers spotted him on the south side of the mall and he was detained, police said. Bank employees identified Cunneen, 49, of Tampa. He was arrested and charged with armed bank robbery.Cunneen had entered the bank at around 4:30 p.m. He presented a note to the teller and demanded money. The teller noticed he had a gun in his briefcase, police said. The teller placed cash in a bag that Cunneen provided, police said, and Cunneen ran from the scene to the mall.
