Spring Hill man charged with assaulting deputy, woman

SPRING HILL – An intoxicated Spring Hill man was arrested at Waterfall Drive and Laredo Avenue on Saturday after his car broke down, deputies said.

An arrest report says Joshua Patrick Stechenfinger, 24, was belligerent and cursing at law enforcement during a traffic stop. He also flailed his arms at them and threw items harshly about his car, the report states.

“During the yelling (Stechenfinger) advised he is a second-degree black belt,” a deputy wrote.

A deputy gave Stechenfinger a verbal warning, at which time he walked in the middle of Waterfall Drive, still yelling profanities and impeding traffic, the report said.

The report states he refused to get out of the road when directed, and shoved a woman when she told him to stop yelling. He caused her to stumble into traffic, according to the report.

Stechenfinger then got into the woman’s vehicle, watching as a deputy approached the passenger side, where he was seated. Stechenfinger shoved the door open and struck the deputy, according to the report.

The deputy told Stechenfinger to get out of the woman’s car, according to the report.

“He refused, still yelling obscenities and advising of his martial arts status,” the deputy wrote.

The deputy attempted to remove Stechenfinger from the vehicle, and he continued to strike the deputy with the door, according to the report.

Stechenfinger was eventually removed from the vehicle and detained, but continued resisting arrest by stiffening his legs, causing his walk to be difficult and weighted, according to the report.

Stechenfinger was charged with battery on an officer, battery, and resisting arrest with violence.

He was being held at Hernando County Jail on $1,300 bond.

Jail records show Stechenfinger was arrested in 2011 on a charge of criminal mischief property damage.
