Speeding motorcyclist topped 120 mph, Clearwater police say

Clearwater police say a motorcyclist who was riding at excessive speeds Monday was hospitalized and will be charged when discharged. About 4:30 p.m., a police officer clocked a 2006 Honda motorcycle going 86 mph coming off the Courtney Campbell Cause-way and heading west on State Road 60. A second officer clocked the same motorcycle on State Road 60 near U.S. 19 going approximately 122 mph. The second officer tried but failed to stop the motorcycle, which was seen in Clearwater Beach a short time later, still speeding. Officers attempting to locate the motorcycle found it had struck a vehicle in the 600 block of Bayway Boulevard, police said.
Elvin Pablo Moreno, 22, of Valrico, was alert and taken to Bayfront Medical Center, police said. His injuries appeared to be serious but not life-threatening. Moreno will be charged with reckless driving and fleeing/eluding, police said.
