A five-vehicle crash closed the northbound U.S. 19 at Klosterman Road in Tarpon Springs this afternoon as police investigated the crash.
The intersection was closed until just before 6 p.m., the Tarpon Springs Police Department said.
After the crash, two people were taken to the hospital in an emergency helicopter with life-threatening injuries, and four people with non-life threatening injuries were taken to the hospital by ambulance, police said.
The crash occurred when a black Chevy pickup truck that was heading south on U.S. 19 made a left turn in front of the path of vehicles heading northbound on U.S. 19.
A total of five vehicles were involved in the crash, police said.
A man and a woman in the Chevy pickup truck were taken to a local hospital in an emergency helicopter, police said.
Four people from three vehicles involved in the crash were taken to the hospital by ambulance. They included a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old in a four-door Suzuki, a 16-year-old boy in a four-door Ford and a 44-year-old woman in a silver Chevy pickup, police said.
There were no injuries in a black Buick, the fifth vehicle involved in the crash, police said.
The case remains under investigation.
