A 15-year-old boy was arrested after sheriff’s deputies said he tried to kidnap a 5-year-old on Friday night from an apartment in Riverview.
Bobby Mcquay II, of Riverview, faces charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling and attempted kidnapping. He also faces a probation violation for breaking his 8 p.m. curfew.
About 10:15 p.m., deputies responded to an apartment complex on the 9400 block of Windermere Lake Drive after a report of an attempted kidnapping, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
The mother told deputies she was at home when she heard a noise, and found Mcquay had entered the house by smashing a window with a tennis shoe. The teen was standing in the bedroom holding her 5-year-old boy, investigators said. After a short struggle, she was able to grab the child and push the teen out of the window.
The teen fled, and deputies and an aviation unit searched the area but did not find him, according to the sheriff’s office.
The teen returned to the scene and was stopped by deputies because he fit the suspect’s description, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies interviewed then arrested him.
The teen lives with his family in the same apartment complex as the mother, deputies said. He told deputies he moved there last week.
