Tampa mother shoots daughter, then herself
Investigators are trying to find out why a mother shot her adult daughter, then committed suicide. Julia Hill called 911 about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday and asked for deputies to come to her home in northwestern Hillsborough County. When deputies arrived at the home at 4526 Grainary Ave., they found Hill with a gunshot wound to the chest but still alive, the sheriff’s office said. A .38-caliber revolver was on the floor next to her. Hill, 68, told deputies she had shot her daughter, Tracey Hill, then herself. Deputies found Tracey Hill in her bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head, the sheriff’s office said.Tracey Hill, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene. Julia Hill was taken to a hospital, where she died, the sheriff’s office said. The mother and daughter lived together in the modest, one-story home. Detectives reviewed letters Julia Hill had written but found no immediate answer as to why she would shoot her daughter and then herself, said Larry McKinnon, spokesman with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. “There was no indication that there was adverse history between them in the past,” McKinnon said. Investigators did learn that Julia Hill had been grappling with personal issues, McKinnon said. “Mom was dealing with her own emotional issues and decided to take her life,” McKinnon said. “And for whatever reason, (she) decided to take the life of her daughter.” Several years ago, Tracey Hill was involved in an accident that left her with head injuries, McKinnon said. She lived with her mother but was able to take care of herself, he said.
