Sheriff: Second suspect identified in fatal Tampa shooting

A second Tampa man has been identified and a warrant has been issued for his arrest in last week’s shooting death of a man in the University area, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Leon Lomax II, 20, of Tampa, has been identified as the second suspect in the shooting death on April 15 of Kortney Dubron Jerry, 33, of Riviera Beach, which is near West Palm Beach, the sheriff’s office said.

Last week, the sheriff’s office arrested Demetrick Anglin, 18, of Tampa, and charged him with felony murder with a firearm and armed robbery with a firearm, the sheriff’s office said. Detectives have said that Anglin had conspired to rob Jerry during a drug deal.

Lomax will also be charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery with a firearm.

Lomax is being held in the Volusia County jail.

Just before 3 a.m. on April 15, sheriff’s detectives received a call of shots being fired at the Avesta Apartmetns, located at 2016 East 131st Ave., Tampa.

While on scene, investigators saw a 1999 Lincoln Town Car that had its trunk open and the driver’s and passenger’s side doors open. The car’s engine was running, but no one was in the vehicle.

Deputies searched the area for a victim and found Jerry lying in the grass with multiple gunshot windows to his body, the sheriff’s office said.
