A Riverview man is jailed after he reported his cell phone was stolen in a robbery, but detectives found that he was still using the device.
Kyle Thomas Gallagher, 26, 10315 Zackary Circle, Apt. 135, is charged with filing a false report to law enforcement authorities.
Gallagher reported on Aug. 28 he was robbed at knifepoint by a black male in front of the Bayou Crossings Apartment Complex in Riverview, off Duncan Road, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. He said that the man stole his cell phone, Florida driver’s license, cash and green dot debit card.
Detectives, however, checked Gallagher’s phone records and found that he was making calls and sending text messages with the phone after he said it was stolen. When asked, Gallagher refused to cooperate with the investigators.
Gallagher was spotted at a bus stop on Wednesday in Riverview, and he again refused to explain the phone records when questioned by detectives, the sheriff’s office said. He was arrested for filing a false report.
After his arrest, detectives found that he still had his driver’s license and was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. His bond is set at $500.
