Second teen arrested in Winter Haven park attack

A 17-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday and faces charges related to the attempted robbery of another teen last month at a Winter Haven park. A 15-year-old was previously arrested in the robbery. The pair used a gun during the attack about 3 p.m. Nov. 23 near Lake Maude Nature Park, Winter Haven police said. Police had obtained a warrant for the 17-year-old's arrest, and a tip led to his whereabouts. The arrest was made with assistance from the Polk County Sheriff's Office. The victim was with a friend when the robbers approached and began punching him, police said. Both used a gun to threaten the victim, but no shots were fired, police said.
The attackers unsuccessfully attempted to take the victim's cellphone and watch, police said. Injuries to the 17-year-old victim and the friend were minor and did not require medical attention. The suspects face charges of armed robbery with a firearm, two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm by adjudicated delinquent, improper exhibition of firearm, battery and violation of probation. Both were taken to the Polk County Juvenile Assessment Center.
