Ruskin man faces DUI charge after motorcyclist killed
A Ruskin man faces a DUI manslaughter charge after his pickup truck struck and killed a motorcyclist late Wednesday at a Riverview intersection, troopers said. After the crash, John Clinton Butler, 33, ran from the scene, but returned about two hours later, when he was taken into custody, troopers said. The motorcyclist, identified as Heiner Estrada, 30, of Wimauma, died in the crash at U.S. 301 and Balm-Riverview Drive. Butler, driving a 1996 Chevrolet S-10, was heading south in the right lane on U.S. 301, approaching a red light at Balm-Riverview Drive about 11:25 p.m., investigators said. The motorcycle, in the right lane ahead of Butler, and a northbound 2003 Ford F350, driven by Colton Wilson, 21, of Tampa, were stopped at the light, troopers said. Butler failed to stop and his pickup hit the motorcycle, investigators said. Estrada was ejected from the bike into the center lane of U.S. 301, investigators said. Butlerís pickup continued moving southeast, pushing the motorcycle forward, until both vehicles collided with Wilsonís Ford F350, troopers said. Butlerís Chevy stopped on the east shoulder while the other vehicles stopped in northbound lanes. Butler fled on foot, but returned to the intersection about two hours later, troopers said. Butler received minor injuries in the crash and was treated at the scene, troopers said. Wilson did not report any injuries. Butler faces charges of driving under the influence-manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash and driving with a suspended license.
