Two people are dead and two others were taken to a hospital Sunday afternoon after a shooting at Al Barnes Park, 2902 32nd St. N., according to Tampa police.
Two men who were pronounced dead at the scene were identified as Nico Charles Crawford, 22, and Zedmon Culpepper, 17.
Police are not yet identifying the two people who were injured. Both remained in critical condition, police said.
The shooting happened shortly after 5 p.m. when a small group of people began to argue, police said. The argument escalated into a physical fight and one person took out a gun and began firing it at a group, police said. A second person then took out a gun and began to fire also, police said.
Several families unrelated to that group were enjoying Easter afternoon in the park when the shooting occurred, police said.
Tampa Police spokesman Lt. Ronald McMullen said police were following up on several leads in the case, and that the community was cooperating to help apprehend the suspects.
“On a day when we should all be celebrating the Resurrection we are mourning the senseless loss of two young lives. This is the epitome of poor decision making!,” McMullen said in a news release.
