Tampa police released surveillance video Wednesday of a man they say may have information that could help them find the suspect in Friday night’s shooting near Plant High School.
In the video, the man is seen walking in a parking lot at Plant and inside the school’s stadium attending a football game Friday night. A 16-year-old girl was shot in the leg while walking from the game with a friend.
The man, called a “possible witness” by police, appeared to be wearing a red T-shirt with cut-off sleeves, blue shorts, tennis shoes and a baseball cap with sunglasses on the brim.
The victim and another girl, 15, were walking east on West San Miguel Street near South Bendelow Trail about 10 p.m. Friday when a black, four-door vehicle with dark tinted windows stopped next to them, police said. Police said the driver rolled down his window, made a statement to the girls and pointed a gun at them, before firing and hitting the girl in the lower left leg and the teens ran away.
The teen was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Police described the suspect as a white male, 20 to 30 years old, and clean shaven with a chubby face. He was possibly wearing a red shirt and had a black ski-type mask on his head, but it was not covering his face.
Anyone with information was asked to call police at (813) 231-6130. Those who wish to remain anonymous and be eligble for a cash reward can call in tips to Crime Stoppers.
