Police: Dade City fight escalates into shooting
The Dade City Police Department is investigating a shooting this morning at an apartment complex. According to a report, the shooting took place at 11:36 a.m. at the Embassy Park Apartments, 13542 Embassy Park Court. Anthony Staten, 23, and Jeffery Gonzales, 20, were engaged in an dispute that escalated into a fight involving baseball bats and clubs. Staten then removed a handgun from his pants, and Gonzalez dropped his club and attempted to take the gun. Staten shot Gonzales, striking him in the leg and the hand, police said. Gonzalez was taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital for treatment. His condition was not available. Staten was treated and released from Pasco Regional Medical Center and is being charged with armed burglary in connection with an incident that occurred at the same residence Sunday night. This incident also involved Gonzalez, police saidAdditional charges are expected as the investigation continues, police said.
