A 22-year-old man has been charged in an early morning robbery at a Tampa convenience store where employees and customers were forced inside a cooler.
A pair of armed, masked gunman took property from the store and made the five customers and employees get into the cooler at Mi Pueblo Meat Market, 102 S. 22nd St., Tampa police said. Officers responded at 1:30 a.m.
Detectives following a tip went to interview a friend of the suspect, Brian Sommers, and found him there, according to police. Sommers fled out the back door.
Sommers was caught and confessed to the crime after items from the store were found in the home, police said. Detectives obtained a search warrant and also found a gun in the home.
Sommers, of 2412 Stuart St., Tampa, is charged with robbery with a firearm and five counts of armed kidnapping for locking the employees and customers in the cooler.
