A Tampa man accidentally fired his handgun Thursday morning while receiving emergency care at a local hospital, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
Lynn Boatman, 67, went to the Town & Country emergency room at around 1:20 a.m. because of a medical issue, the sheriff’s office said.
When he was placed on an emergency room bed, Boatman took out his Glock .45 caliber handgun from his back pocket to remove the magazine, the sheriff’s office said.
As Boatman attempted to clear the chamber, he accidentally pulled the trigger, and one round discharged, the sheriff’s office said.
The bullet went through a chair and into the tile floor. No one was injured, the sheriff’s office said.
The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office was notified. No charged will be filed against Boatman, who has a concealed weapons permit, the sheriff’s office said.
