Motorcyclist charged with DUI after hitting police cruiser
A motorcyclist who crashed into an unmarked police cruiser in April was charged on Friday with driving under the influence, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said. Martin McFadden, 23, of Tarpon Springs, had a blood-alcohol level of .080 and .081 at the time of the April 27 crash. In Florida, a driver is considered impaired with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08. McFadden also had marijuana in his system at the time of the crash, the sheriff's office said. The incident occurred when sheriff's Deputy Travis Sibley was driving his unmarked patrol car on Alt. U.S. 19 near Georgia Avenue in Palm Harbor. McFadden was behind Sibley's unmarked car. When Sibley attempted to make a U-turn, McFadden tried to pass him by driving in the center turn lane, the sheriff's office said. McFadden struck the driver's side of Sibley's unmarked police cruiser, the sheriff's office said.McFadden suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. Sibley was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the sheriff's office said.
