Machete attack leaves one man dead in Hialeah

HIALEAH – One man is dead after allegedly attacking his neighbor with a machete.

Police say Arturo Vigo and Alain Alvarez got into an argument that quickly escalated into a deadly fight at the Hialeah Cabin Motel on Friday.

The Miami Herald reports that Alvarez told investigators Vigo attacked him with a machete. In response, Alvarez pulled a gun and shot and killed Vigo.

Authorities found the 38-year-old Vigo dead in the first-floor hallway of the extended-stay motel.

Police say the incident appeared to be a case of self-defense, so Alvarez has not been charged with homicide. Alvarez has, however, been charged with grand theft of a firearm because the weapon he used was reported stolen.
