A Lakeland police officer is suspended with pay pending a criminal investigation.
The Ledger reported that Officer Julio Pagan, 31, was suspended Friday night.
Assistant Police Chief Larry Giddens acknowledged the investigation is of a criminal nature but wouldn’t discuss the case.
The suspension comes on the heels of an ongoing sexual misconduct scandal that has plagued the department. Officials said the cases are not related.
Pagan has worked for the Lakeland Police Department since 2011. He previously worked for the Bartow Police Department.
Detective Nick Marolda, who heads the local police union, said he was aware of the situation and waiting for the outcome of the criminal investigation before taking steps to represent Pagan.
