A Lakeland man has been convicted of being a felon in possession of a handgun and could face between 15 years to life in prison, U.S. Attorney A. Lee Bentley III said.
Ronald Deandrea Solomon, 29, was indicted on April 17, Bentley said.
According to trial testimony, law enforcement officers approached Solomon and a group of other men hanging out in the parking lot of a Lakeland apartment building. When the officers drove into the complex, they saw Solomon walk away from the group, remove a firearm from his waistband and toss it under a nearby vehicle.
As a previously convicted felon, Solomon was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law.
