TAMPA — A homeless man was charged Tuesday with fatally stabbing another homeless man after an argument early this morning, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
Edwin Jamal Brown, 41, has been charged with second-degree murder. He is accused of stabbing Daniel Lee Hudson, 35, at around 2 a.m. Tuesday after an argument in a wooded area near the University of South Florida, the sheriff’s office said.
A witness to the stabbing contacted the sheriff’s office.
The witness told investigators that Hudson, another man and him were drinking beer in the woods behind the University Citgo Gas Station, 2245 E. Fletcher Ave., Tampa.
The witness told investigators that Brown, who was sleeping, became angry over the noise the three men were making.
Brown and Hudson began to argue, and it escalated into a fight. During the fight, Hudson fell to the ground and was unresponsive, the sheriff’s office said.
A witness called 911, and Brown ran from the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and took Hudson to the hospital, where he died, the sheriff’s office said.
The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office determined in the autopsy that Hudson’s death came after he was stabbed in the chest. The medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide, the sheriff’s office said.
Brown was arrested after deputies spotted him walking in the area of North 22nd Street and 131st Avenue in Tampa.
He is being held at Orient Road Jail with no bail.
