A man has been arrested after a standoff in a home near Gunn Highway this afternoon, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
At 4:12 p.m., a 911 call came in about domestic violence in the area of Cypress Ridge Place and Country Run Road. A deputy who arrived at the scene saw James Marshall Fullwood II, 38, leaving the neighborhood in his vehicle, deputies said.
The deputy called for backup and followed Fullwood, who saw the deputy following him and pulled through a parking lot located at Gunn Highway and Plantation Boulevard. He then drove back to the home on Cypress Ridge Place and ran inside with a firearm in his hand, deputies said.
Once inside, Fullwood closed all of the blinds and locked the doors, deputies said.
Patrol units arrived and set up a perimeter. A patrol supervisor unsuccessfully tried to negotiate with Fullwood over the phone. During the call, Fullwood indicated that he wanted to take his own life, deputies said.
The sheriff’s SWAT team arrived and evacuated eight nearby residences. Crisis negotiators then made contact with Fullwood via phone and talked him into coming out of the home, deputies said.
Fullwood was arrested around 6:45 p.m. and will be held under the Baker Act.
According to the victim, who is Fullwood’s girlfriend, before deputies arrived on scene, the couple was arguing and Fullwood armed himself with a firearm. He then held her at gunpoint inside of her home and threatened to kill her and then take his own life, deputies said.
Officials are not releasing the victim’s identity.
