Hillsborough deputy pulled gun on motorist, sheriff’s office says

An off-duty Hillsborough County detention deputy was arrested after pulling a gun on a motorist during an argument in Seffner on Tuesday morning, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to investigators, off-duty deputy Reginald J. Migues, 54, argued with another man during an incident that occurred along Williams Road and U.S. Highway 92. Both men pulled their vehicles into a parking lot and Migues walked toward the other man, pulled out his personal Glock .40 caliber handgun, chambered a round and pointed the gun at the other man, the sheriff’s office said.

The other man got back into his vehicle and called 911, the report said. Migues then went back to his vehicle.

The men didn’t know each other, and they waited at the scene in their vehicles until a sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene, said a sheriff’s office spokesman.

During the investigation by the sheriff’s Internal Affairs Unit, Migues admitted to possessing the loaded firearm and chambering a round as he approached Langley to confront him, the report said. Migues was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Migues, who has been employed by the sheriff’s office for the past 11 years and was assigned to the Falkenburg Road Jail, was booked into the Orient Road Jail. He was released after posting $2,000 bail.

He has been suspended without pay pending the termination process, the sheriff’s office said.
