Hillsborough deputies: Motorcyclist dies in collision

A motorcyclist is dead after colliding with an SUV Saturday evening west of Brandon, Hillsborough County deputies said.

The collision took place at 7:10 p.m. at South 78th Street and Riverview Drive, deputies said. A 2000 Suzuki GSXR 600 motorcycle was westbound on Riverview Drive at a high rate of speed. Meanwhile, a 1996 Ford Explorer driven by James Williford Riley, 57, of Riverview was eastbound on Riverview and began to turn into a Citgo gas station on the northwest corner of the intersection.

The Explorer entered the path of the motorcycle, and the motorcycist applied his brakes and went down, sliding into the side of the SUV, deputies said.

The motorcyclist, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene. Riley was not injured.

Traffic remains blocked at the intersection, deputies said.
