Gibsonton driver cited in fatal pedestrian crash

The Gibsonton driver who struck a pedestrian in a New Year’s Eve crash was ticketed today for failure to use care, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Patrice Pascoe, 37, was cited for failure to use due care, FHP said.

Just before 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Pascoe, who was alone in a 2011 Buick Lacrosse, was driving south on U.S. Highway 41 in the outside lane. When she approached St. Paul Street and Highway 41 in the Palm River area, José Perez-Bermudez, 51, of Tampa, was trying to cross the road from east to west, FHP said.

The front of Pascoe’s vehicle crashed into Perez-Bermudez. He died at the scene of the crash, FHP said.

She was not under the influence of alcohol. Perez-Bermudez was under the influence of alcohol, FHP said.
