Driver killed in Lutz collision, troopers say

A 61-year-old man died Friday evening in a crash in Lutz, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

About 6:50 p.m., a 2000 Saturn 3-door coupe driven by Gregory Michael Palmer was westbound on State Road 54 attempting to turn left onto Oak Grove Boulevard, according to troopers. Meanwhile, a 2003 Mercury SUV driven by Beth Hummel, 45, of Lutz was eastbound on S.R. 54.

The Saturn turned into the Mercury’s path, and the Saturn was struck on the right side while the Mercury overturned,

Palmer was taken to the Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, where he died from his injuries, FHP said. Hummel and her passenger, Sabanah Hummel, 14, received minor injuries but were not taken to the hospital.

No charges have been filed, FHP said.
