Charge refiled in slaying of FIU football player Berry
MIAMI - Miami-Dade prosecutors had to temporarily drop the murder charge against a former Florida International University student accused of fatally stabbing former Haines City High football star Kendall Berry in March 2010. But state attorney's office spokesman Ed Griffith said Wednesday that the case has been refiled and a new arrest warrant has already been signed. He said 25-year-old Quentin Wyche has agreed to arrange his surrender. Prosecutors say they were forced to drop the case, because the judge refused to grant a continuance for unavailable witnesses. The trial was scheduled to begin next Monday. Wyche's attorney has argued that his client was acting in self-defense during a fight when he stabbed Berry, a running back for the FIU football team. Berry had reportedly been accompanied by several other players when he confronted Wyche.
