BROOKSVILLE – Powell Middle School students were evacuated this morning after the school received a bomb threat call.
District spokesman Roy Gordon said the call came in at 11:39 a.m., and it is not yet known whether the call came from outside the school, from within the school, or who might have placed the call.
“I don’t know who received the call, but soon after that the students were evacuated,” he said.
Hernando County sheriff’s deputies, determined the area to be safe and cleared the students to return to class around 1:15 p.m., Gordon said.
Gordon said he is not aware of any student, or any other person, who has been detained in relation to the incident.
Gordon also said he does not know exactly what was said during the call, but that the sheriff’s office is investigating.
The sheriff’s office public information officer has not yet responded to requests for additional information, but further details will be provided as they become available.
