Former world champion boxer Antonio Tarver was arrested late Saturday night in Pinellas County on a warrant issued by Nevada authorities.
Tarver, 45, who lives in Lutz and has trained in Tampa for years, was arrested on a warrant for jumping bail and failure to appear out of Clark County, Nev. by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
He is being held without bond.
Tarver, a former light heavyweight champion who held WBA, WBC, IBF, IBO and Ring Magazine belts, hit his pinnacle after knocking out Roy Jones Jr. in a 2004 rematch of their 2003 meeting. He beat Jones a second time in 2005 in a third bout by decision, held at The Forum.
Jones won the first meeting in 2003 by a majority decision.
That success catapulted him into a prominent role in the Rocky series as Mason “The Line” Dixon in the 2006 flick, Rocky Balboa. He also served as a boxing analyst for Showtime.
In 2011, Tarver beat Danny Green in Australia for his IBO cruiserweight belt. Last November, Tarver beat Mike Sheppard by fourth-round technical knockout for the interim NABA heavyweight title.
Since his professional debut in 1997 at 28, Tarver has a 29-6 overall record, including 19 knockouts.
