A motorcyclist was injured Friday afternoon in Safety Harbor when he crashed into the passenger side of a car, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.
Joshua Santostefano, 24, of Oldsmar, was transported by emergency helicopter to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
Santostefano was heading south on Bayshore Boulevard in a 1993 Kawasaki motorcycle at around 5:20 p.m. Joshua Miller, 28, of Safety Harbor, was heading north on Bayshore Boulevard in a 2004 Volkswagen Passat, the sheriff’s office said.
When Miller approached Seventh Street, he began to make a left turn. Santostefano’s motorcycle struck the passenger side of Miller’s car, the sheriff’s office said.
Santostefano, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was ejected from the motorcycle. Miller wasn’t injured, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators are trying to determine whether alcohol or speed contributed to the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
After the crash, all southbound lanes of Bayshore Boulevard at Seventh Street were closed for several hours, the sheriff’s office said. The road has been reopened.
