Deputies responding to a call at a Clair-Mel convenience store Sunday night had to work some overtime when they found themselves in the path of an apparently drunk Tampa man trying to get away with stolen beer.
The deputies were standing outside the front entrance of the Citgo Quick Mart, 1225 78th St. S., on an unrelated call when Emmanuel Camper, 28, walked out the front door without paying for his beer, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
As he exited the front door, the clerk yelled, “He was stealing beer,” deputies say.
That tipped off the deputies, who were standing near the doorway with their cruisers' overhead lights on.
Camper, who deputies say was already intoxicated, didn't see the deputies, who arrested him and transported him to the Orient Road Jail.
Camper, who according to jail records has been arrested on several previous occasions on counts including trespassing, domestic violence and carrying a concealed weapon, faces one count of petit theft. He remains jailed on $250 bond.
