A load of lumber spilled onto Interstate 4 north of Orlando early Friday after the driver lost control of his tractor-trailer during a coughing fit, troopers said.
The truck was heading west on I-4 in Maitland about 2:30 a.m. when the driver started coughing and the truck hit a concrete barrier, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
A second vehicle hit the lumber and overturned several times, coming to rest on the highway’s right shoulder. The driver received minor injuries.
Two more vehicles hit the lumber in the roadway, including an ambulance that was responding to the crash.
The truck driver, 60-year-old Carl Thompson, was ticketed for careless driving.
The crash caused an morning traffic jam but all lanes were later reopened.
