Car crash kills 2; U.S. 301 near Pasco line reopens
A 10-mile stretch of U.S. 301 just south of the Pasco County line has reopened after being closed for several hours in the aftermath of a deadly crash. The highway was closed between McIntosh and Chancey roads after the 5:20 a.m. collision that left two people dead. That's when a red Dodge hit a Sweetbay tractor-trailer head-on near U.S. 301 and Chancey Road, according to Florida Highway Patrol Capt. Kristina Quenneville. Debris littering the roadway, along with a diesel fuel spill, forced troopers to close the highway for more than nine hours. The victims in the Dodge were Justin Crum, 26, of Tampa and his 24-year-old passenger, a woman from Jacksonville. The name of the second victim has not been released. The truck driver, 45-year-old Carlos Villanueva of Lakeland, sustained minor injuries. The Dodge was traveling north in the southbound lane just north of Ranch Road when the crash occurred.
