Yankees fly Copa to Panama exhibition game

The New York Yankees used a Copa Airlines charter flight Thursday from Tampa International Airport to Panama City, Panama, where the team that does its spring training in Tampa scheduled an exhibition game in honor of Yankees’ retiree and Panamanian baseball idol Mariano Rivera.

Rivera greeted his former teammates when they landed in Panama City for the “Legend Series” games between the Yankees and Florida Marlins scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

Copa displayed a Legend Series event logo on its Boeing 737-800 aircraft for the Yankees’ flight to play in the first Major League Baseball exhibition games in Panama in more than 50 years.

Copa began regularly scheduled flights between Tampa and Panama City in December on four days a week.
