Stadium Green Iguana closing
TAMPA - A 100-foot-long green iguana is losing its place along North Dale Mabry Highway. And so is the restaurant beneath it, the Green Iguana Bar & Grill, which was scheduled to close for good last night at its Stadium location. The property the restaurateurs leased at 2520 N. Dale Mabry Highway, and the adjacent site that is home to the Tampa Airport Stadium Inn, has been sold to the Kuhn Motors group, which will replace the restaurant and hotel with an automobile dealership, said Voncile Anderson, GI Entertainment & Restaurant Group Marketing. "The restaurant was one of our best performers," said Anderson. "We are trying to find a new site as quickly as possible."Many of the employees, the equipment and, ultimately, the landmark rooftop iguana will be relocated elsewhere, she said. Other Green Iguanas are on South West Shore Boulevard, near the Veterans Highway and Anderson Road, at Winthrop Town Center in Brandon, on Seventh Avenue in Ybor City and at Tampa International Airport.
