The holiday shopping season bring hosts of discounts and deals, but it also brings something less cheery — fraud. According to a forecast by ACI Worldwide, a payment processing company, retailers are expected to see a 30 percent jump in fraud this year compared to last year. That means when shopping, take extra precautions.
If you're buying online, make sure you're connected to your home or office network, according to cybersecurity company Netsurion. Hackers can intercept information such as your payment details on open WiFi connections.
Monitoring your accounts for fraud, too, can help you catch unauthorized activity early, Netsurion advised. Set up alerts via email or text for your credit and debit cards to be alerted when new purchases are made.
